What Good Nutrition Can Do for Your Body PDF Print E-mail

Health is the number one topic in the world these days. It’s a good topic to have out there too; there are a lot of people who need to hear more about how to stay healthy. In today’s world, it can be a hard thing to do, with all of the fast foods and sugary treats available – not to mention the cravings we experience! However, with obesity, cancer and heart disease on the rise, it is more important than ever to stay healthy. Learning more about good nutrition is a great place to start, and there are many benefits of eating a more balanced and nutritious diet each day.

What does good nutrition mean? Eating nutritiously means eating for your body – eat to live, don’t live to eat! Instead of filling your body with sugar, starch and the like, give it food that it can turn into fuel. Feed yourself food rich in vitamins, minerals and disease fighting antioxidants. What do you get when you practice good nutrition? Your body will thank you for it, and here is how:
  • You will live longer: Studies show that a healthy diet, coupled with plenty of exercise actually does help you to live a longer and healthier life. This also means a happier life.
  • You will lose weight: You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that eating a more nutritious diet will affect your weight for the better. When you stop filling your body with fatty and sugary foods that are causing the weight gain in the first place, the extra weight will automatically come off. (On a side note, I wonder why we use the term “rocket scientist” that way. Are they smarter than all the other scientists out there?)
  • You will decrease your chances of getting diseases: Many studies have been done about the connection between the food we eat and diseases. There are a surprising amount of diseases that can be successfully avoided just by eating the right foods. Some of these diseases include cancer, diabetes, obesity, stroke and heart disease.
  • You will have more energy: Foods that contain little or no nutrition don’t give you much energy. The sugar content in them may give you a boost for a little while, but then they leave you feeling more tired than you were before you ate. Foods that have a lot of nutrition will give you long lasting energy.

There are a lot of choices when it comes to nutritious foods, and here are some to start with:
  • Vegetables: The greener the better when it comes to veggies! Always fill up the biggest part of your plate with vegetables.
  • Fruit: It is generally recommended that you eat fruit in moderation because of the sugar content, but the sugar found in fruit is natural sugar, so it’s still healthier for you than the sugar in processed foods.
  • Lean protein: Make sure you buy the lean meats; stay away from the fatty stuff, as it can do harm to your arteries.
